YEAR 4 TOPICS
This is our finished topic on Misty Mountains (Autumn (1). This wall is only a small part of all our work. Year 4 have learnt about Mount Everest, how Mountains are formed and the different types of Mountain. We also investigated Volcanoes and Tsunamis. We went on to learn about the Water cycle with our scientific keywords. We have worked very hard over this half term with our times tables and our spellings.
This is our finished topic on Potions (Autumn 2). This wall is only a small part of all our work. Year 4 have learnt about states of Matter and electrical circuits. We also investigated different types of energy and poetry. Knowing about different types of energy will come in really handy when we come to Summer Term 2 when we become Climate Change Warriors.
This half term (Autumn 2) we have also finished our Guided Reading book "The Abominables". This book was brilliant for the children to study; it questions how humans treat the world and animals. We learnt some new key words as well as learning about the importance of demonstrating your beliefs. The next book we will be reading is ERIK THE VIKING.
This half term (Spring 1) we had to learn from home. We completed our Viking Topic- we learnt about the Vikings and Anglo-Saxons, how they travelled across the seas in their Longboats and how they lived over 1000 years ago.
In this half term (Spring 2) we have been learning about Digestion. We also studied the functions of the organs and how we use our teeth. We did an experiment on eggs to see how they would decay and we made lots of great non-fiction formal writing. Great work Year 4!

Reading & Times Tables
In Year 4 the children will continue using the Accelerated Reader programme. Many books are on this programme- so if they are reading a separate book at home they can search for it on the website and see if there is a comprehension quiz.
Times tables knowledge is invaluable and feeds into many areas of the maths curriculum. At the end of Year 4, your child will complete a national multiplication test. We will continue preparing your child for this but please help them with any time tables they are struggling with. They also need to be able to recall the time tables facts quickly as well as accurately.
